Habakkuk 3:1–6, 16–19
The Book of Habakkuk deals with sadness and revival. Revival means getting on fire for God. It is returning to the path of God, talking, praying devoting our day to God. It is putting into practice that which we once had, when we were new Christians, being on fire for God. ONCE HAD, SOUND FAMILIAR CHURCH?

What was it when or where was it, if you can remember “being on fire for God?” Did someone walk with you in being on fire for God or was it just you and the Holy Spirit?

Let’s talk about prayers or prayer requests for a moment can we? I have been thinking the past few weeks about prayers, You all probably know that don’t you? I have had a note on my desk that I made to myself probably back in July, maybe August.

Just this past Thursday evening, I sent Connie a request to please put my nephew, Brad Carr on the prayer chain, “where did we even get that name?” Brad has to have open heart surgery, I believe Brad is 42. A few months ago, I asked for prayers for Brad and his two kids, their Mom, Melissa passed away,

Do we put much thought in prayer, the responsibility to pray to our Father is enormous. We are instructed over and over in Scripture to pray, take our cares, our requests, our praised to God. I don’t know about you all but I am believing that this prayer thing is bigger than we make it or do-don’t you all?

The note to myself simply says, “Who’s praying for you? and who are you asking to pray for you, what are you asking from others concerning prayers? Something direct, something important? Something that’s been on your heart? Maybe something selfish?

WHO are you asking to pray for you and why are you asking that person? If I were you all, I would get to know who you are asking to pray for you concerning your life’s concerns don’t you think?

1. Habakkuk’s PRAYER FOR REVIVAL,
Who was Habakkuk? Habbakuk was a “professional prophet.” He probably was a priest suggesting that he may have been a priest connected with the temple worship in Jerusalem. His name probably means “One Who Embraces” or Clings. At the end of Habakkuk, He chooses to cling firmly to God regardless of what happens to his nation. Date and setting was somewhere around 609-597 B.C.

Habakkuk 3:1–6 “1 This prayer was sung by the prophet Habakkuk: 2 I have heard all about you, Lord. I am filled with awe by your amazing works. In this time of our deep need, help us again as you did in years gone by. And in your anger, remember your mercy. 3 I see God moving across the deserts from Edom, the Holy One coming from Mount Paran. His brilliant splendor fills the heavens, and the earth is filled with his praise. 4 His coming is as brilliant as the sunrise. Rays of light flash from his hands, where his awesome power is hidden. 5 Pestilence marches before him; plague follows close behind. 6 When he stops, the earth shakes. When he looks, the nations tremble. He shatters the everlasting mountains and levels the eternal hills. He is the Eternal One!”

Is Habakkuk singing of just any old thing? NO! Revival or changes in the way they are living;

2. PURPOSE OF REVIVAL—IS OF COURSE THE PEOPLE HAVE LOST THEIR “FIRE” FOR GOD

Habakkuk 3:16–17 “16 I trembled inside when I heard this; my lips quivered with fear. My legs gave way beneath me, and I shook in terror. I will wait quietly for the coming day when disaster will strike the people who invade us. 17 Even though the fig trees have no blossoms, and there are no grapes on the vines; even though the olive crop fails, and the fields lie empty and barren; even though the flocks die in the fields, and the cattle barns are empty,”

Habakkuk is saying, “I’m all in for God. He prophesies to the people about changes or “revival.” God is telling him to go and tell the people these things.

Is it just me or is Habakkuk waiting, hoping, expecting God to take care of things down the road always? Is this what we do? Do we go to God in prayer? Are we recruiting “prayer warriors” to go to God in prayer with and for us concerning the circumstances that we are going through and facing? I don’t know about you all but I have a short list of Christian men and women that I go to for fervent direct prayer!

Can our prayer life be considered a part of the revival that Habbakuk is prophesying about? Of course it can.

The scriptures read earlier all have to do with “REVIVAL”.......Does prayer to God have anything to do with this at all? Yep. Our prayers, our direction of our prayers, our choice of those who we pray with and who we make known to that we will be prayers with you and for you. Would’t it be so much of a Blessing to have someone or a few “someones” to pray with?

I believe If I were you all, I would be praying and asking the HOLY SPIRIT to send you the names of the people He wants you to be praying with. Just sayin’.........

When Christians make things in their lives right with God, there will be revival. Then sinners will accept Christ as their Savior. There will be a change in the lives of Christians. There will be a change in our churches and our lives.
